Energy Charts
The energy charts section of your Live Dashboard shows historical energy data for your Tesla site — letting you spot patterns, review past performance, and understand how your automations affected your energy usage.
Chart types
Section titled “Chart types”Grid Getter shows energy data across four time resolutions:

What the charts show
Section titled “What the charts show”Each chart displays several data series that you can toggle on and off:
- Solar production — electricity generated by your solar panels (kW or kWh depending on view)
- Grid import — power drawn from the utility grid
- Grid export — power sent to the grid (selling excess solar)
- Battery charge/discharge — power flowing into or out of your Powerwall
- Home consumption — your home’s total electricity usage
Reading the data
Section titled “Reading the data”Positive values represent energy flowing in a particular direction as labeled (e.g., grid import means you’re drawing from the grid).
Battery discharge appears when your Powerwall is powering your home — this is typically what happens during demand periods or peak hours when DemandGuard or a Peak Time automation is active.
History from before you joined
Section titled “History from before you joined”Grid Getter starts recording your energy the moment you connect your Powerwall — so on its own, a chart could only ever reach back to your sign-up date.
It doesn’t stop there. When you pick a range Grid Getter hasn’t recorded in full, it asks Tesla for the missing time and fills it in. Your Powerwall has been keeping this history since it was installed, so a range from before you had a Grid Getter account still has something to show.
While a chart is loading a range Grid Getter hasn’t stored yet, the hours are pulled from Tesla inside the same request. That takes a few seconds, so the loading placeholder shows an animated “Loading historical data” notice rather than sitting silent.
When a chart is using that filled-in history, a line under it says so — for example “68 of 168 points filled in from Tesla, for time before Grid Getter was recording.” It’s worth knowing which is which: filled-in points come from Tesla’s half-hourly summaries rather than Grid Getter’s own readings every few minutes, and they carry no battery percentage.
The filled-in history is saved, so the next time you open that range it loads straight away. A long range fills in over a few minutes — the most recent months arrive first and the rest continue in the background.
Data gaps
Section titled “Data gaps”If you still see gaps in your chart data, it usually means:
- Your Tesla system was offline during that period, so neither Grid Getter nor Tesla has a reading
- The data hasn’t finished syncing yet (can take up to a few hours)
- Grid Getter’s connection to Tesla was temporarily interrupted
Using charts with automations
Section titled “Using charts with automations”The energy charts are a great way to evaluate how your automations are performing. For example:
- After setting up a DemandGuard automation, check the 5-minute chart during a demand period to see if battery discharge offset your grid draw
- After a Peak Time automation runs, look at the hourly chart to see if your battery reserve was in place during the peak window
- Compare daily totals before and after adding automations to measure impact
